Landmark Design

The architectural genesis of the development is simple in nature but counterpointed with complex and impactful moves. The angular form of the commercial podium responds directly to the shape of the site, accentuated by a visually prominent architectural screen that wraps the podium. This sculptured screen envelopes the structural columns, providing a character-defining element of the building as well as a permeable year-round outdoor pedestrian experience.

Cultural Base

Elmwood explores new representations of life and architecture, not only as attributes, but as a new landmark. Through strong architectural and landscape responses, Elmwood will provide tangible physical and visual contributions to the urban fabric of the area. Here, the idea of livability is realized, with easy access to everything: transit, wellness, sustainability, inspiring workspace and curated food and retail concepts.

Fifth Façade

Architectural facades have the power to punctuate a city’s urban landscape and are often designed as a way to connect and encourage the public to experience structures around them. At Elmwood, we created a design pattern for the ‘fifth façade' as productive green spaces that speak to their surrounding environment and are reflective of the project’s location within the residential neighbourhood and growing cultural hub of Burquitlam.
